Dr. George Gabisonia is a medical doctor and public health specialist with over 13 years of experience in healthcare quality, medical education, and strategic leadership. He earned his MD from Tbilisi State Medical University in 2011, completed an MPH at the University of Edinburgh in 2012, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Health Professions Education at Gulf Medical University (2024–present).
Since 2018, Dr. Gabisonia has served as an expert with Georgia’s National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, actively participating in accreditation and authorization processes for medical and healthcare programs. From 2021 to 2023, he was a member of the Sectoral Council for Higher Education in Healthcare, where he contributed to the development and updating of national benchmarks for medical education programs.
Between 2019 and 2025, Dr. Gabisonia held the position of Vice Dean of the School of Medicine at Georgian American University, overseeing curriculum planning, faculty development, and quality assurance initiatives in line with WFME standards. In 2025, he assumed the role of Dean of the International School of Medicine at ALTE University, where he now leads strategic efforts to enhance teaching, research, and community engagement.
A certified AMEE medical education specialist since 2019, Dr. Gabisonia champions innovative pedagogical approaches, including spearheading the introduction of Objective Structured Teaching Exercises (OSTE) in Georgia (2024–2025) to strengthen faculty teaching competencies. Alongside his administrative leadership, he has served as an invited lecturer since 2016 at multiple Georgian universities, delivering courses in public health, biostatistics, clinical epidemiology, and evidence-based medicine.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Gabisonia gained substantial experience in healthcare systems and public health policy, including roles at the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (2012–2014) and JSC Medical Corporation Evex (2014–2016), focusing on quality monitoring, policy development, and health program implementation. Through his publications and ongoing projects, he remains dedicated to advancing the quality and international integration of Georgia’s medical education.
