Student Ombudsman - Know Your Rights!
The Student Ombudsman is a neutral and independent representative who assists students in resolving issues that arise within the university. Their primary role is to mediate between students and academic/administrative staff, ensure fairness, and promote positive changes.
Who is the Student Ombudsman?
Tekla Bregvadze - a master's student in the Law program at Alte University, dedicated to protecting students' rights and interests. Her primary responsibilities include addressing issues related to student rights, providing consultations, and mediating conflicts within the university.
As an independent and impartial figure, she ensures fairness and facilitates improved communication between the university administration and students.
If a student faces challenges related to academic processes, disciplinary matters, or administrative services, the Ombudsman can provide assistance in resolving them.
How Can the Student Ombudsman Help?
- Clarifying University Regulations - explaining policies and procedures to help students make informed decisions.
- Guidance and Support - offering advice and recommendations, assisting in filing complaints, and finding solutions.
- Providing a Safe Space - fostering a culture of collaboration where students can share concerns without fear.
- Ensuring Fairness - advocating for a just environment and protecting students' university rights.
Conflict Resolution - mediating between students and the university administration to manage challenging situations.
When Should a Student Contact the Student Ombudsman?
- Academic Disputes - if a student believes their grade has been unfairly assigned, faces issues with course completion or exam retakes, or has concerns about program requirements.
- Disciplinary Matters - if accused of a rule violation and requires an objective review, feels that a disciplinary action is excessively harsh or unjust, or witnesses unfair treatment and needs support.
- Protection from Harassment and Discrimination - if experiencing unfair treatment based on gender, nationality, beliefs, or other personal characteristics, or encountering unwanted or offensive behavior.
- Financial Issues - if facing difficulties with tuition payments, seeking payment extensions, financial aid, or grants, or requiring assistance with financial agreements.
Challenges in the Learning Process - if struggling with course content, teaching quality, communication with professors, or access to academic resources.
