Medical technologies in school - winner of the grant competition

Alte University won the targeted grant competition for science promotion of the Shota Rustaveli Scientific Foundation.

The project aims to interest high school students in medical technologies. For this purpose, the project plans to implement a children's university, in which 50 students from 10 public schools in Tbilisi will study. Within the Children's University, students will learn about the latest advances and applications of telemedicine, bioinformatics, and medical wearables; learn the basics of electronics and programming, and create prototypes of Arduino-based medical wearables. The project will end with a scientific exhibition competition, where together with the schools involved in the project, other schools will have the opportunity to present the project created by his team in the direction of medical technologies. Acceptance of schools in the project will be announced in September.

The head of the project is Nana Dikhaminjia, the director of the Digital Transformation Center of Alte University; the project coordinator is Ketevan Chakhnashvili, the dean of the Medical School of Alte University. Associate Professor of Computer Sciences Salome Oniani will lead the engineering training, and Theona Dalakishvili, the head of the Startup Garage, will conduct the technological entrepreneurship training.

The project will be consulted by Georgian scientists working in Silicon Valley: bioinformatician Tsotne Chitiashvili (Calico) and bioinformatician Davit Managadze (DNAnexus).
