NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025 Zugdidi has concluded

On October 4-5, organized by Alte University, the world’s largest hackathon the NASA Space Apps Challenge took place in Zugdidi.

The hackathon, held in partnership with GITA, took place at the Zugdidi Technopark under the theme: “Learn, Launch, Lead!”. During the event, participating teams worked on real-world challenges using open data from NASA and its partner agencies, with the guidance of mentors.

The teams’ projects and presentations were evaluated by a specially selected jury:

  • Rezo Lomtatidze - Managing Partner at SOLVIT;
  • Davit Bochorishvili - Lecturer and Researcher at the Scientific Cybersecurity Association (SCSA) and the Caucasus Cybersecurity Center, and Lecturer at Alte University;
  • Uta Kilasonia - Subject Expert in Technology at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth, Founder of the STEM Innovators Association;
  • Khatuna Elbakidze - Professor at Alte University, Head of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics.

This year’s winning team was Skill Issue, which worked on the Commercializing Low Earth Orbit (LEO) challenge. The team created a remote automated workshop called “Sateliko”, enabling the production of reusable nano-satellites. Its goal is to give students and researchers the opportunity to explore and collect data about low Earth orbit without launching a rocket.

The winners received technology vouchers from Alte University and are now preparing for the international competition!
